Ryugu and Bennu

#1

The similarities of Ryugu and Bennu are not startling but nevertheless intriguing. Both must be of similar composition to have similar geometry. Loose rock piles perhaps? These asteroids would make great subjects for middle school and high school physics!

What we’re seeing is probably the effect of “equatorial bulging” combined with “angle of repose”. I wonder if computer modelling would show the same.

#3

Truly an example of a loose pile of rocks.

#4

Are they just copy-paste? Do we live in a simulation?

Maybe if they have a spin, piles of sand would fall into a pyramid shape
